Forest Certification is a voluntary mechanism for assessing and ensuring forest management meets certain agreed-upon standards (environmental, economic and social). Assessment by a third party “certifier” provides confidence for companies and their consumers that certified products are sourced from sustainably managed forests. Many certification systems have special guidelines aimed at promoting transparency, inclusion and the social and economic health of local communities.
